Use and Reimbursement of Sick Time Due To COVID Positive Test

Dear Colleagues,

Last September, the Chapter shared with you the original MOU between UUP and SUNY regarding Mandatory COVID 19 Testing of Employees. This MOU was later extended to August 31, 2022 (attached).

Recently there have been questions regarding the reimbursement of sick time due to a COVID positive test, in reference to item #11 in the MOU, which encourages a member’s ability to work remotely.

If you need to quarantine or isolate, you should call your immediate supervisor and HR. You will also need to share the positive test details with HR unless testing was completed at a UB or DOH site.  If you are able to work remotely, there should be no further issues.  If you are not able to work, sick days will need to be charged, and HR will work with you to credit back the sick days used.

In Solidarity,

Ken Kern
