Workload and Extra Service

Dear Colleagues,

UB HR recently sent out a message that no new extra service assignments will be offered. Extra service is money paid for specific work performed that goes beyond your profession obligation. It is money that is not added to base. While UB can certainly stop offering extra service contracts, please remember that if the money goes away, the work should also go away. If you are advised that there is no longer funding to pay for the extra work, but you must still continue performing it, it is likely an increase in your workload. Should you wish to continue to perform the work, we suggest that you indicate, in writing, that you are doing so voluntarily. By volunteering to do it, you can decide at any point to stop volunteering. Otherwise, after four months, it will have permanently become part of your workload. If you have any questions, please call the chapter office at 716.276.3377 or email at buffalocenter@uupmail.org.

In Solidarity,

Ken Kern
