Analysis of Governor’s Proposed Budget

Please see the following from UUP Statewide President, Fred Kowal:

Colleagues,

Though it took a bit longer than planned, attached please find the detailed analysis of the Governor’s proposed budget. We covered all areas that have the slightest impact on SUNY. However, the key points to remember are as follows:

  1. The budget does increase SUNY’s budget in many areas, but it’s not nearly enough.
  2. We are advocating for a financially distressed campus fund that will eliminate the deficits faced by 19 campuses, with a total request for this of $160 million.
  3. We are advocating for mission funding for the SUNY hospitals, as they are shut out in the proposed budget, with the ask paralleling SUNY’s: $175 million.
  4. We are advocating for $110 million to support campus transformation, by which we mean expanding programs to attract and retain students – to support the work we do!

We continue to work with legislators and their staffs, along with the Governor’s staff, to get the best budget we can get. Feel free to write if you have any questions.

In Solidarity,

Fred
