Update – Vaccination Situation

Please see the following from statewide President, Mr. Fred Kowal:

Colleagues,

Since the start of the vaccination program in New York State, UUP leadership has been working aggressively with SUNY leadership and the Governor’s staff to include our members in the first phases of vaccination. We have been successful in making sure all of our members who work in health related settings (hospitals, clinics, etc.) are included in Phase 1A. On Friday, the Governor announced that teachers, among other public servants, would be included in Phase 1B. We worked with the leadership of SUNY through the weekend to include all of our members who are or will be interacting with students or the public in Phase 1B. As of this morning, those who are or will be teaching in person will be included in the 1B phase of vaccinations.

Though we are pleased that this means our academics who are teaching in person will be vaccinated, we are demanding that all those who will be working on campus must be included in 1B. That includes all those who are in our professional ranks. The conversations with the Chancellor continue and he does understand the absolute necessity for these colleagues to be a part of this next round of vaccinations.

Please continue to monitor our website, www.uupinfo.org, to get the most updated information on the eligibility issues and the logistics of the vaccination of each and every one of us.

These are challenging and frightening times. Rest assured that we will do everything we can to protect each other from this deadly virus. Our communities’ health and well-being depend on our success in these efforts.

Please stay safe and well…

In Solidarity,

Fred
