Dear Colleagues,
With a week left before New York State’s budget deadline, the time is now for the state Legislature to fund a real recovery for our communities by investing in SUNY.
Across our state, SUNY is the center of regional economic and educational activity, moving us towards a better future. UUP and SUNY cannot do this vital work with austerity budgets year after year, which is why we are grateful that the Senate and Assembly one-house budget bills begin to address these crucial issues.
We urge legislators to push for inclusion of their proposals–which include funding for hazard pay for frontline workers at SUNY’s public hospitals, resolving the TAP Gap, additional funding for SUNY’s opportunity programs, and new taxes on billionaires and the ultrarich–in the 2021-22 state budget.
