Dear Colleagues,
The Provost announced that classes will be held on Labor Day. In past years UB has always observed Labor Day as a holiday. UUP had no contractual way to prevent this change to the calendar.
So what does this mean for you?
Per Article 23.5c, if you are a professional or 12 month academic, and your supervisor needs you to work on Labor Day, you will earn a holiday comp day in lieu, (to take on a day of your choice, subject to the same authorization requirements as vacation). Please remember that holiday comp days expire one year from when they are earned.
Faculty have the academic freedom to provide instruction on Labor Day in any manner that they see fit.
In Solidarity,
Ken Kern
