Department Reps Needed

Dear Colleagues,

The UUP Buffalo Center Chapter is entering the new Academic Year with a renewed sense of awareness and purpose. A newly elected and very active set of Officers and Chapter Board Members will add support to the members of our already excellent Department Rep Program.

I would like to invite you to join our Chapter’s Department Rep Program to help make our presence known throughout the university and help empower the Chapter Membership.

Members who are Department Reps serve as the “face” of UUP to members they represent and are the “heart and soul” of the Chapter Buffalo Center. Traditionally, Department Reps meet twice a semester for 2 hours each meeting. Some other responsibilities include:

  • Attend Department Rep and General membership meetings to raise concerns, request information, and bring information back to your unit(s).
  • Maintain an accurate and up to date list of UUP associated individuals in your area, reaching out to non-members to encourage them to become members.
  • Make personal contact with all unit members for whom you are responsible. Establish that you are a resource for union information.
  • Alert UUP Chapter Grievance Officers, Vice-President’s or the Labor Relation Specialist of any concerns you may have regarding contract violation or other problems in your area.

Specifically, the Chapter is seeking Department Reps for the following departments:

  • Chemical and Biological Engineering
  • Chemistry
  • Comparative Literature
  • Computational & Data-Enabled Sciences
