Dear Colleagues,
The following contains information on the upcoming Buffalo Center Chapter Elections.
Over the last few months, I’ve been encouraging members to consider running in the upcoming Chapter elections – particularly for the Chapter Board position. Within the next couple of weeks, Nomination Forms will be mailed to you (A SAMPLE as to what we expect the Nomination Form to look like is attached).
This will be your opportunity to continue to, or consider running for and becoming a part of the UUP Buffalo Center Chapter Leadership Team over the next 2 years. Please be sure to pay attention to the instructions given with the Nomination Form once you receive it.
As you consider running for a Chapter Position, we have attached for your review two additional documents: 1) the 2021 Chapter Election Calendar, and 2) an Elected Position Description and Expectations document.
The 2021 Chapter Election Calendar was developed by UUP Central in Albany, who will be coordinating our Chapter elections. The tentative dates identified is the timeline in which the election process will take place, leading to the announcement in mid April of the new UUP Buffalo Center Chapter Leadership Team. This team will begin their work June 1st, 2021; and continue through May 31st, 2023.
The Elected Position Description and Expectations document was developed and approved by the Chapter Board to give you some insight into what each elected position entails, and what you can expect if you run for, and are elected to a particular position. When reviewing this document, please note that sections listed in RED are taken directly from the Chapter’s By-Laws. Sections listed in BLACK are additional notes created by those who have previously worked in those potions as well as expectations of the Chapter Board.
For those of you considering to becoming a UUP Buffalo Center Chapter Board Member, be sure to nominate yourself as a candidate under the “Delegate” category (highlighted in the sample form (either academic or professional depending on your title). Once the election ballots are generated, you will need to get at least 10 votes to become a member of the Chapter Board.
Over the past year, I have been excited about the increased number of members who have “stepped up” and have become active within the Buffalo Center Chapter. Weather as a Department Rep or Committee member, your voices are being heard, as the Chapter continues to work to ensure the working terms and conditions of our members at the University at Buffalo. I am looking forward to an even larger increase in member participation into the operations of the Buffalo Center Chapter.
“Together We Fight, Together We Win!”
If there are any questions, please contact myself or the Buffalo Center UUP office.
In Solidarity,
Ken Kern
Chapter President
