NYSUT Cares Virtual Food Drive

Dear Colleagues,

Please see the following from NYSUT Regional Staff Director, Mr. Michael Deely:

Hunger is a serious concern in our Western New York Community, and it looks like it will get worse before it gets better. We ask that you consider getting involved and recruit others to get involved in our #NYSUTCares initiative to raise money for WNY Foodbanks and Meals on Wheels through FeedmoreWNY.

FeedmoreWNY is the mother organization for Meals on Wheels and Foodbanks in our WNY Counties.

Typically, foodbanks see contributions come to a trickle after the holidays. Our initiative is an effort to raise money over the next three months to keep the shelves full at the foodbanks during this horrible time.

We have already seen some NYSUT members laid off and in-need over the past few months, unfortunately, we expect this need to increase. We want to help our members, as well as, other displaced workers in our communities. FeedmoreWNY has several locations throughout WNY with food pick-up and delivery to those in need. Through the agency there are special programs for new mothers, pregnant woman and families. FeedmoreWNY manages the Meals on Wheels program that serves seniors in their homes and they are in need of volunteers to drive meals during the hours of 11:00AM-1:00PM on weekdays.

NYSUT has partnered with WNY Area Labor Federation on this initiative. We want to raise awareness about the FeedmoreWNY programs that serve counties in WNY and raise as much money as possible to meet the needs of hunger. https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/WNYLaborCares

This campaign is starting now and will continue until March 27th, 2021. We are hoping to raise upwards of $100,000 and to reach such a goal we are asking individual members to consider making a contribution.
