Colleagues:
Fred Kowal, president of the UUP, designated to Ray Dannenhoffer and Ezra Zubrow, the presidents of the UB Medical and UB Center Chapters, the negotiations on downtown parking. We have been in negotiations with UB since last summer. We finally have agreed to a Downtown Parking Memorandum of Understanding. All parties have signed off on the memorandum of understanding. Items include:
- Everyone who is presently hired by UB and is transferred downtown is covered by the memorandum.
- Anyone who is newly hired is not covered by the memorandum. Their parking costs will be presented to them in their hiring letter. If it is not, they will be covered by the agreement.
- Anyone who is permanently assigned for downtown is eligible to park at the South Campus and take the tram downtown. The Tram pass will be paid for by UB.
- If you don’t want to take the Tram, they will pay you the value of the subway pass to use against parking downtown.
- There are escalation clauses to account for increases in parking and the pass. If the pass increases employees will automatically get that value (currently $65.00). If you prefer to use the parking spaces they are:at the Gallagher, Eg, and Migo lots.
o Gallagher parking is $57.00 (no out of pocket cost to the employee). They will shuttle you to the medical corridor.
o Eg and Migo are the closest lots. We have 30 days first claims on the spots that cost $89 / month. Employees will pay the difference. There is a reopener after 2 years. It can go up 5.5% per year and we eat that increase for the first two years. Either side can reopen after 2 years.
- If you are a permanent employee and are temporarily assigned downtown (e.g. 1 day a week), you are eligible to receive parking and mileage reimbursement.
- Anyone who parks downtown for free presently, continues to park for free.
Members who are eligible for reimbursement of mileage and parking for intermittent travel are to complete the reimbursement form located at:
http://www.buffalo.edu/administrative-services/business-travel/mileage-and-per-diem.html
The full Parking MOA is attached.
I wish to thank Mr. Edward Giblen and Ms. Tara Singer-Blumberg for their very hard work during this negotiation. It would not have been possible without them.
Best,
Ezra Zubrow
President
