Dear Colleagues,
SUNY’s economic impact in New York State is $28.6 billion. This represents a 27 percent growth in overall state economic impact since 2008. The SUNY system educates 436,277 students, employs 77,900 faculty and staff (37,000+ are UUP), and has an operating budget of $11.2 billion.
Do you like the raise structure for a four-year contract that was proposed by the state?
After seeing the NYS Legislature give themselves a 29% pay increase; recognizing that the Feds allocated a Social Security pay increase of 8.7%; and learning how many of our colleagues were identified as severely compressed—–this is an insult to SUNY workers who worked their tails off to keep our institution floating during COVID and ultimately contributed to the $28.6 billion economic impact of the state. The state believes that inflation will go down—–but every indicator puts it at over 6%. That means we are losing money—–a lot of money!! It’s harder to pay our utilities, the rent, our mortgages, and raise our families in an economic environment that costs more money to maintain the basics, as well as working in an environment that won’t pay us comparable compensation to our colleague’s state and nationwide!
