UUP Fighting for Professionals

A professional employee is someone in a non-academic state-funded position. Non-contingent professional staff are typically eligible for permanent appointment in their seventh year. Staff in temporary or continuing appointments that are not eligible for permanency are contingent employees.

Contractual Protections (2016–2022)

  • Benefits (available to those teaching 6-credit hours): Health insurance, retirement plans, vision, dental, location pay, life insurance, work-life services and more
  • 2% yearly salary increases each year of the contract
  • Coverage under NYS Paid Family Leave Law
  • New minimum salary for part-time academics
  • On-base funds to begin addressing salary compression/inequity
