UUP Fighting for Contingents
A contingent employee is someone in a position that is not eligible for tenure or permanency.
How does UUP fight for Contingents?
- Part-time employees who join UUP by signing a membership card are full UUP members.
- Entitled to all contractual protections.
- Recently negotiated minimum salary increases.
- Professional development programs: UUP Tuition Free
- Those teaching 6-credit hours (or equivalent) are eligible for health insurance coverage, including prescriptions.
Contractual Protections (2016–2022)
- Benefits (available to those teaching 6-credit hours): Health insurance, retirement plans, vision, dental, location pay, life insurance, work-life services and more
- 2% yearly salary increases each year of the contract
- Coverage under NYS Paid Family Leave Law
- New minimum salary for part-time academics
- On-base funds to begin addressing salary compression/inequity
- Re-establishment of on-base discretionary salary increases
- Professional development and other grants to address professional needs of UUP members and SUNY
