Dear Colleagues,
The Buffalo Center Chapter of the United University Professions urges you one last time to urge you to complete UUP’s Contract Negotiation Member Survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/UUPBuffaloContract
You know how important it is to get a good contract. By filling out a short survey, you help the negotiations team in at least two ways. First, you give them the clearest possible sense of what matters most to you. Second, you give them clear evidence that as a member you are actively engaged and participating in the process. This gives the team leverage at the table as they pursue demands. When members are apathetic, it strengthens the state’s position and weakens ours. Taking 10 minutes to complete a survey seems like the least you can do.
Please note that so far the rate of participation for academics, and especially contingent faculty is notably lower than for professionals. Academics need to make clear those issue that most directly affect their work lives. For contingent colleagues: UUP has stated that compensation, job security and other contingent-specific issues are priorities. It is easy to understand why contingent faculty complete the survey in lower numbers than tenure-line faculty. However, this is your chance to clarify the issues that matter most to you, and to emphasize the importance of these issues through active participation.
The survey will be closing on Friday 1/14. Please carve out time to make your concerns and suggestions known.
In Solidarity,
Ken Kern
