Despite last week’s freezing cold weather, Brooklyn showed up on January 22, 2025 to the first public hearing (1 of 3) in Central Brooklyn to discuss the future of SUNY Downstate @suny.downstate The support was outstanding!💪🏽💙 With roughly 400 people in attendance, including community members, clergy members, elected officials, doctors, medical students, unions, and healthcare professionals, the message was clear: We want SUNY Downstate to keep its doors open to the public, and remain as the leader in healthcare in the borough of Brooklyn!

The community is demanding a stronger, more innovative hospital with cutting edge, technology and infrastructure. We demand better facilities to ensure a healthier environment for healing and for treating our patients with dignity and respect; as we continue to train the next generation of healthcare providers.
