Call for proposals – President Scheuerman to speak at national conference on worker education

The CUNY Center for Worker Education is seeking proposals for its national conference, scheduled for June 1-2 in New York City. The proposed papers, presentations and panels should explore the history, politics and contemporary significance of worker education in the U.S. and abroad.

UUP President William Scheuerman will speak during the conference, “Storming the Heavens: Worker Education and Social Activism.”

Labor scholars, educators and trade unionists in worker education programs are encouraged to contribute to the discourse, reflecting their institutional and personal experiences. A crucial area of inquiry is how class, race and gender intersect in working-class experiences and in worker education programs as vehicles for social progress.

For more information and to register for the conference, call (212) 966-4014 or go to the center’s Web site at www.workereducation.org.

The conference commemorates the 25th anniversary of the founding of the CUNY Center for Worker Education, which develops programs designed to meet the needs of workers by embracing their concerns and aspirations.

UUP joins eight trade organizations, student and alumni groups, and national labor unions in sponsoring the two-day event.
