UUP in March added a new medium to deliver its message about the dangers of SUNY budget cuts. The union last month purchased billboard and transit ad space in Albany, Brooklyn, Stony Brook and Syracuse, on the heels of its month-long television and newspaper ad campaign in February.
The billboards in Brooklyn and Syracuse were placed on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway near Downstate Medical and Interstate 690 near University Hospital, respectively, and name those hospitals as being at risk if budget cuts are approved. The Albany billboard was posted on Interstate 787 North, near the exit ramp to the Empire State Plaza.
A fourth version highlighting the threat to Stony Brook HSC was posted on nearly 400 Long Island Rail Road cars and station platforms. All of the ads carry the “Stop budget cuts” message and urge viewers to go to the union’s Web site to take action.
