Why is the state slashing public services, particularly when the economy is deteriorating, home foreclosures are mounting and unemployment is spreading?
UUPer Lawrence Wittner, a professor of history at UAlbany, examines the issue in a new Working Paper Series article, “How Not to Deal with the Oncoming Depression: The Case of New York State.” The paper can be found on the UUP Web site at www.uupinfo.org. Click on Research and then Working Paper Series.
Dozens of other working papers written by UUP members can also be found on the site.
The UUP Working Paper Series is open to both academic and professional SUNY faculty, who can write on any subject in any discipline. The purpose is to increase discussion among the campuses and to help junior faculty in the tenure process.
The papers submitted to the series go through a peer review process. Authors retain the copyright to their submissions and submitting papers to the UUP Working Paper Series does not preclude the authors from publishing them in academic journals or other publications.
Papers should be e-mailed to UUP Vice President for Academics Fred Floss—in Microsoft Word format—at ffloss@uupmail.org.
