UUP members looking to enroll in online self-study courses—such as the Supervisor Training Program described in the November 2008 issue of The Voice—can now go to the NYS-Learn Web site, www.goer.state.ny.us/train/system/index.html, for program information and registration.
Beginning this month, NYS-Learn will automatically notify a member’s human resources department once the module is completed.
Among the other courses offered are:
EAP for Supervisors—Teaches supervisors how to use the Employee Assistance Program to address performance and behavioral problems.
Ethics and NYS Employment—Describes Public Officers Law and how it applies to the New York state employee.
Fundamental Team and Meeting Skills—Explains team development, team process, and how to conduct effective meetings.
Hazard Communication—Provides information employees need to know concerning the federal Hazard Communication Standard and the New York State Right-to-Know Law.
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)—Describes what HIPAA is, what it covers and how HIPAA applies to the employee and agency.
Working with the Contract—Helps supervisors and CSEA representatives work more effectively and prevent grievances through a greater understanding of the labor-management environment and appropriate use of the contract.
Members will also be able to link to the NYS-Learn training programs from the Joint Labor-Management Committees Web site at www.nysuup.lmc.state.ny.us and from the UUP Web site at www.uupinfo.org.
