UUPers across the state are working to keep New York green.
From driving hybrids to work and becoming involved in go-green initiatives on campus to using reusable bags at the grocery store and supporting candidates who support developing alternative energy solutions, UUPers are doing their part to reduce, reuse and recycle.
And it’s happening at SUNY colleges and universities across the state.
The University at Buffalo has created UB Green, the university’s environmental office. The office runs a series of green-friendly programs on campus to promote environmental responsibility. UAlbany also has an office dedicated to environmental sustainability.
At SUNY campuses such as Fredonia, Oswego and Environmental Science & Forestry, UUP professionals and academics have joined students in recycling efforts such as clothing swaps, replacing dining hall fast food with locally grown foods and putting out recycling bins for cans and printer ink cartridges.
In July, SUNY Cortland’s Glass Tower Hall dormitory was one of 40 buildings in New York certified as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design building by the United States Green Building Council. SUNY Cobleskill broke ground on its new Center for Environmental Science and Technology, which will house bio-energy research in developing programs in green technologies.
UUP, along with the American Federation of Teachers and New York State United Teachers, have undertaken their own green projects. Even the pages of The Voice have green undertones.
If you take part in green initiatives, good for you. Keep up the green work.
If not, it’s never too late to be green!
