It may have taken 15 years, but a SUNY Fredonia assistant professor of art returned to Germany on a second Fulbright scholarship, this time to teach studio art courses at the Universitat Osnabr¸ck.

“It was an amazingly rewarding and enriching experience to return to Osnabr¸ck as a Senior Fulbright Lecturer,” said UUPer Timothy Frerichs, whose first Fulbright to Germany came in 1991-92 when he finished his Master of Fine Arts at the University of Iowa. “I found my German students to be very responsive and had a great studio course room experience.”

Frerichs was in Germany for one semester from March 16 to July 16, 2007. He lived in the Visiting Faculty/International Guest House.

While there, Frerichs put together an exhibit “The River Hase Walk,” which was on display through April 12, 2008, in the Osnabr¸ck City Gallery.

“The project is an examination of the river Hase as it flows through Osnabr¸ck and the surrounding area,” Frerichs said. “The resulting artworks consist of documented river walks, video, collages, monoprints and some sculptures.”

Frerichs is currently working on bringing the exhibit to the United States.

“I found the project very engaging and will continue pursuing further projects similar in scope,” he added.

“This Fulbright was rewarding for me professionally and particularly as a teacher.
