The UUP Executive Board in late November appointed UUP Vice President for Academics Frederick Floss as acting president to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of former president William Scheuerman. Scheuerman resigned from UUP to head the National Labor College in Silver Spring, Md.
“I am honored and humbled to have been appointed to lead this great union as acting president,†Floss said. “I look forward to maintaining and strengthening UUP’s national reputation for strong advocacy on behalf of our members and to continuing our joint efforts with our state and national affiliates. With the support of UUP’s politically astute and active members, we will continue pushing SUNY to become the greatest public university in the nation.â€
The Executive Board also appointed Kenneth Kallio of SUNY Geneseo as acting vice president for academics, succeeding Floss in that position. Kallio is a member of the union’s Negotiations Team.
Floss will serve as acting president until an election is conducted to select a candidate to fill the remainder of Scheuerman’s unexpired term that ends May 31, 2009. The election will be held at UUP’s Winter Delegate Assembly Feb. 8-9 in Albany.
In a related matter, Kallio in mid-December resigned as chair of the statewide Election and Credentials Committee. He was replaced by Alfred Chapter President Robert Rees, a two-time member of the UUP Negotiations Team.
He has served as a member of the Elections and Credentials Committee for nearly two decades.
