UUP Scholarship Program
Dear Members –
I am pleased to announce that the UUP Benefit Trust Fund Scholarship Program will be available for the Fall 2018 semester through the Spring 2022 semester for undergraduate students.
The Scholarship Program is available for dependents of both NYSHIP eligible and non-NYSHIP eligible UUP represented employees.
For Fall 2018, the scholarship award is $500 per semester to be used for fees, books, supplies or room and board (this award cannot be used for tuition). A maximum of one scholarship per dependent child will be awarded each semester even if both parents are UUP represented employees and a total maximum of eight scholarships can be awarded per dependent child. The scholarship checks will be issued in the UUP represented employee’s name. The scholarship application must be postmarked by 60 days after the end of the semester for which the dependent is applying.
The scholarship form outlines the specific criteria that needs to be met to qualify for the scholarship. There are two different forms – one for NYSHIP eligible employees and one for non-NYSHIP eligible employees. Non-NYSHIP eligible employees will need to provide documentation verifying that they are the parent of the student. Both applications are attached to this email.
If you have any questions regarding the scholarship program, please call the UUP Benefit Trust Fund at 800-887-3863.

Janus vs AFSCME Update
Dear Chapter Leaders,
Please feel free to forward this to colleagues. Those who have been in contact with UUP about their posted course materials have received this notice directly, but we want to make sure all members are aware of the opportunity to be part of the action we are about to take.
For an updated flier that provides more information: http://uupinfo.org/reports/reportpdf/piracyflier061918final.pdf
Please respond with the information requested below if you want to be named in UUP’s action against companies that post and sell course materials without permission from authors.
Attorneys from UUP’s affiliate, New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), are preparing a “Cease and Desist” order on behalf of UUP that would direct the companies to remove all materials belonging to individuals who agree to be named as victims. For all individuals named, the order will seek immediate removal and permanent protection against future posting of course materials.
UUP has been notified by members that course materials have been posted without permission on the following sites. If you discover other sites, please let me know.

URGENT: CONTRACT FUNDING IMPERILED
Dear Colleagues:
Senate Republican leadership is holding up the legislation (S 9101) that enables the members of UUP to receive the compensation provided in our recently negotiated contract. They are holding that legislation hostage to the passage of legislation that we cannot support. It is imperative that you call your Republican State Senator (see attached list) and the Senate Republican Leader, John Flanagan, as soon as possible today (6/20) and tell your Senator to stop holding up funding for the UUP-NYS Contract. Tell your Senator and Republican Leader Flanagan to put the paybill through. It’s imperative that you and as many of your colleagues make these calls as soon as possible today, June 20th. Today is the last day of session. I apologize for the incredibly short notice, but the situation literally developed in the last 12 hours.
I have never asked you to take up an advocacy effort that is more important than this one. It’s about our contract, our families, and our future.
In Solidarity,
Fred
