Spotlight on UUPers

Every year, the state university and numerous academic and professional organizations honor hundreds of UUP members for their excellence.

The Voice is pleased to recognize some of these members here.

Luce Library at SUNY Maritime, was recently elected to a three-year term on the New York State Higher Education Initiative (NYSHEI) Governing Board, as a representative of SUNY libraries. NYSHEI assists more than 130 member institutions in providing broad access to information, fostering academic enterprise, and advancing industry-academic partnerships.
Michelle Green, a distinguished teaching professor in the physical and life sciences department at SUNY Alfred, recently earned the 2008 FORE Triumph Educator Award from the American Health Information Management Association. The award honors those who demonstrate excellence in preparing the next generation of professionals for careers in health information management.

Brian Lowe, an assistant professor of sociology at SUNY Oneonta, earned the college’s 2008 Richard Siegfried Junior Faculty Prize. The award recognizes a non-tenured faculty member for academic achievement outside the classroom.

A member of the Oneonta faculty since 2003, Lowe is the author of the 2006 book, Emerging Moral Vocabularies: The Creation and Establishment of New Forms of Moral and Ethical Meanings.

Timothy Murphy, a distinguished professor at Buffalo HSC, has been appointed to serve as a study section member in the National Institute of Health’s (NIH) Center for Scientific Review. He will serve as a peer reviewer until June 30, 2011. NIH study section members review grant applications and survey the status of research in their scientific fields.
