SUNY grad student: Latest legislative intern on board

Alexander Rias, a student at UAlbany’s Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, came on board last month as the union’s latest John M. Reilly legislative intern.

Rias is working 20 hours a week for 32 weeks during the academic year. His responsibilities include tracking proposed legislation, researching and analyzing issues for potential legislation, arranging visits to lawmakers’ offices and other duties associated with UUP’s Research and Legislation departments.

Rias is pursuing a master’s degree in public administration. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology from the University of Buffalo, where he also minored in American studies.

Before coming to UUP, Rias was a graduate assistant at UAlbany’s Center for Legislative Development, as well as an intern/student assistant at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and a student assistant at the University of Buffalo.
