UUP Communications hires longtime reporter

Lisi

Michael Lisi, a veteran Capital Region journalist with more than 20 years experience as a reporter and communications professional, has been hired as the communications specialist for UUP.

Lisi comes to UUP from the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), where he worked as a communications and government affairs specialist. The NYISO is the non-profit organization that oversees New York’s 10,775-mile electricity transmission grid and operates the state’s wholesale energy markets.

At UUP, Lisi will develop and write stories for UUP publications such as The Voice and The Connection, and he will be involved with all aspects of the publications’ production process.

Lisi will write content for the union’s Web site, work on UUP print, media and broadcast advertising campaigns and attend Delegate Assemblies and other UUP functions, assisting in providing news coverage for union publications and the media.

“Mike is a talented writer and he brings extensive news reporting experience to his new position,” said UUP Director of Communications Denyce Duncan Lacy. “He is a solid addition to the UUP Communications Department staff.”

Lisi replaces Darryl McGrath, who has taken a part-time communications position in NYSUT Communications and is an adjunct faculty member at UAlbany.

Previously, Lisi worked as a communications specialist for Capital Region BOCES, assigned to the Schenectady City School District. He spent 14 years as a reporter and senior writer at The Daily Gazette in Schenectady and has written for several other New York newspapers, including the Syracuse Post Standard, the Amsterdam Recorder and the Troy Record. He is currently a freelance pop music critic for the Times Union in Albany.

Lisi is a graduate of SUNY Oswego and holds an associate degree from Onondaga Community College in Syracuse.
