Benefits

UUP provides benefits to all bargaining unit members, including a range of programs sponsored by UUP affiliates, New York State United Teachers and the American Federation of Teachers. The UUP website will always be the most authoritative source for UUP member benefits information.

UUP member benefits include:

  • Dental and vision plan coverage* (part-time members not eligible for NYSHIP can purchase these benefits at the group rate)
  • Scholarship program
  • Free group life insurance
  • Free tuition on a “space available” basis
  • Discounts on products and services

* Employee must be eligible for enrollment in the NYS Health Insurance Program.

Most health benefits are administered through the SUNY Geneseo Human Resources Office. Dental and vision benefits are administered through UUP. UUP’s benefits pages have most of the information you need, or you can call UUP at 1-800-342-4206 and ask to speak with someone in member benefits.

Retired Membership

UUP members who have five years of continuous UUP membership immediately prior to retirement, or who have continuous membership for the length of their employment prior to retirement if less than five years, may apply for retired membership. Get all of the details on the benefits of retired membership and how to apply on the UUP website.

Employee Assistance Program

The NYS Employee Assistance Program is a peer assistance program jointly sponsored by labor and management. NYS EAP provides confidential information, assessment, and referral services to NYS employees, their family members, and retirees. It also provides orientations and training for all employees, managers, supervisors, and union representatives on benefits and use of EAP.

Productivity Enhancement Program (PEP)

PEP enables UUP members to reduce their bi-weekly share of NYSHIP health insurance premiums by trading in vacation days. Enrollment period for the following year usually happens in the month of November.
