Kowal said that he was disappointed by the SUNY Board of Trustees\u2019 decision to underfund 19 financially distressed campuses in its state aid allocation to the system\u2019s state-operated colleges and universities. <br><br>For the second year in a row, the Trustees approved an allocation plan that sends the lion\u2019s share of funding to the financially secure university centers and doles out what\u2019s left to the rest of the campuses\u2014including those dealing with multimillion-dollar deficits. <br><br>Some of those campuses, like SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Fredonia, have announced program and staff cuts to reduce deficits of $9 million and $17 million, respectively. \u201cOnce again, SUNY leadership has been taken down the wrong road again by Chancellor John King Jr.,\u201d said Kowal, who leads the nation\u2019s largest higher education union. <br><br>\u201cBy doing so, they continue to undermine the system they are supposed to lead. \u201cThe chancellor and the Trustees have again refused to do the right thing by funding our campuses based on need,\u201d Kowal continued. <br><br>\u201cIt\u2019s unconscionable and it ignores nearly two decades of SUNY underfunding under the Cuomo administration.\u201d Read more <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/click.icptrack.com\/icp\/relay.php?r=42267902&amp;msgid=2119960&amp;act=UI9S&amp;c=983301&amp;pid=3353972&amp;destination=https%3A%2F%2Fuupinfo.org%2Fcommunications%2Freleases%2F240502.php&amp;cf=22432&amp;v=3e6014ec2c1274b7481853f6182051740a4ff64767e0481666ca5f2213dca6e4\" target=\"_blank\">HERE<\/a>.\u00a0<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 UUP disappointed by SUNY campus allocation plan In a May 2 press release, United University Professions President Frederick E.
