Individual Development Award Grants come from a pool of funds negotiated by UUP and New York State for professional development activities for members. The amount of funds for these grants are determined by the state annually, relative to chapter size.
Applications are reviewed by the UUP Maritime IDA committee twice a year. Please review instructions carefully. Priority is given to on-time and complete applications.
IDA applications for professional activities occurring July 2025 – December 2025 are due by November 15th. Late applications may be ineligible.
Rules and Conditions
- Applicants must be a current UUP member.
- Members are limited to receive up to two IDA grants per fiscal year. The combined total may not exceed $2,000.
- Grant funds are for funding professional development activities related to a member’s position. These are detailed in the IDA guidelines and include conferences, workshops, tuition, research costs, publication costs, license and certification costs, and more. See the guidelines for more in-depth explanation.
- IDA grants are reimbursements only. Members will need to pay costs upfront. Reimbursements are granted from the state, via the College’s Business Office.
- There is a limited amount of funds. It is highly encouraged that members seek other funding sources including department funds, Provost FSA funds, grant funds, scholarships, etc. Members may split funding for one activity between IDA and other funding sources.
- IDA applications are reviewed by the chapter IDA committee, then submitted to the state for final approval. Incomplete applications cannot be submitted to the state.
- If the number of applications exceeds the available budget, the IDA committee will give priority to members who have not been recently awarded a grant.
- The committee will communicate decisions in a quick and timely manner. However, final approval and reimbursement are on the state’s timeline.
