UUP “Solidarity Day” – March 1, 2018

FROM:  UUP Chapter Executive Board

Dear Members,

The Cobleskill UUP Executive Board invites all members to participate in our “Solidarity Day”  because we deserve a fair contract now.   Chapters all across the state are participating in this day of action to send SUNY this message.  We have been 20 months without a contract!

On Thursday March 1st we are asking all members to wear RED to work (or black and red).  Along with wearing these colors please wear your fair contract now buttons and stickers.  Please take group photos (and selfies) in your buildings and text them to UUP at 518-944-9528.

Buttons and stickers will be available throughout campus.  Call the chapter office at 5250 for questions or to get buttons and stickers.  We need SUNY to respect our work and we need your help to bring a fair contract home.  Updates will be posted to the chapter website at:      Please see the attached palm card for our position.

Deficit Reduction Repayments

Dear Colleagues:

As we discussed on our recent conference call, the deficit reduction repayments will be coming to an end very soon. That means the seven lag days’ pay that was taken out of our paychecks early in our last contract will be fully repaid. Bargaining unit members who were subject to the DRP will notice a slight decrease in take home pay once the repayment ends.

We have been informed by GOER that the last paycheck which will include a DRP repayment is December 13, 2017. There is also going to be a “catch up” payment in the December 27th paycheck if the entire amount was not paid back.

Please disseminate this information to all UUP members utilizing campus e-mail. It’s imperative that members understand why their paycheck will shrink.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call.

In Solidarity,
Fred

SUNY’s Micro-Credentialing Task Force Report and Recommendations

Microcredentialing Report Final DRAFT – 9-18-17

Memorandum
To:   Campus Presidents and Chief Academic Officers
From:   Grace Wang, Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Research & Economic Development
Subject:   Comment Period Open: Micro-credentialing Task Force Report & Recommendations
I am very pleased to open a comment period on the recommendations of the SUNY Micro-Credentialing Task Force as included in the attached report. My thanks to the Task Force members, which included representative campus presidents, provosts, faculty governance, student governance, registrars, business officers, institutional researchers, and continuing education officers. The Task Force worked collaboratively to understand the still evolving landscape of micro-credentials and to develop recommendations that help to position SUNY as a leader in this space.
The Task Force recognizes the potential of micro-credentials to: enable campuses to more quickly respond to student need and industry demand; establish new academic/industry partnerships; motivate students to persist toward academic and career goals; and bridge non-credit and credit-bearing coursework and experiences. You will see that the Task Force has recommended a definition for micro-credentials at SUNY and a path moving forward that recognizes the role of faculty in ensuring quality credentials and that is designed to give campuses maximum flexibility in designing a wide-range of micro-credentials to meet student interests and industry needs.
Please provide your feedback via e-mail to: provost@suny.edu by Wednesday, November 8, 2017. If you have any questions in the interim, please contact: Associate Provost Fred Hildebrand at: Fred.Hildebrand@suny.edu.

Survey flier – Contingent Academics – New Handout

Dear Chapter Leaders,

I write to enlist your help in circulating the UUP Contingent Employment Committee’s Survey for Academic Contingent Employees. The survey is the result of almost two years of work by the statewide Contingent Employment Committee, co-chaired by Jackie Pittsley (Cortland) and Ben Allocco (Oswego). The objective of the survey is to better understand the concerns and experiences of SUNY part-time and full-time academic contingent employees, ultimately to better support them. We anticipate the results of this survey informing future reports and initiatives. Contingent academics are of course diverse and it is important that we reach those who work on our campuses and in other locations.

cecTakeTheSurveyFlier

Campus Equity Week provides a great opportunity to promote the survey. Please share this link as widely as possible:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/UUPAcademicContingents

Chapter officers and Contingent Employment Committee members will receive additional information about ways to publicize the survey throughout the semester. Please stay tuned.

In Solidarity,
Fred
