Statement by UUP President Frederick E. Kowal on working with Kathy Hochul as NY governor

“United University Professions looks forward to working closely with Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, as she becomes the first woman governor of the state of New York. We welcome her strong leadership and her commitment to public higher education in this time of uncertainty for our state.

“It is time to close this troubled chapter in our state’s history and move forward, focusing on positive initiatives to help all New Yorkers—such as fighting climate change, providing needed support for SUNY’s public teaching hospitals, increasing diversity at SUNY, and making the system stronger, more accessible and more affordable for everyone.”UUP is the nation’s largest higher education union, with more than 42,000 academic and professional faculty and retirees. UUP members work at 29 New York state-operated campuses, including SUNY’s public teaching hospitals and health science centers in Brooklyn, Long Island and Syracuse. It is an affiliate of NYSUT, the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association, and the AFL-CIO
