United University Professions (UUP) is the only organization designated to negotiate with New York State on behalf of SUNY\u2019s academic and professional employees. “Union members earn better wages and benefits than workers who aren\u2019t union members. On average, union workers\u2019 wages are 27 percent higher than their nonunion counterparts.” – AFL-CIO<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n After a predetermined number of years, UUP’s contract with New York expires, and UUP must negotiate with the state for a new agreement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n On June 3, 2026, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that her administration has reached a contract agreement<\/a> with the United University Professions for a five-year term running until July 1, 2031. The agreement is subject to ratification by union membership.
