Welcome to the Empire State College chapter of United University Professions! Our chapter includes all full-time and part-time academic and professional employees in the college, at our more than 35 locations throughout the State of New York and beyond. Our chapter is currently over 900 members strong, out of more than 33,000 academics and professionals in 32 UUP chapters. Chapter business is carried out by a chapter executive board, consisting of a slate of officers and a representative from every center in the college. Elections for these positions are held every two years, in the spring of the year. Executive board meetings are held four times each year, usually in the Albany area. Any member of the chapter is welcome to attend and participate in any executive board meeting; travel expenses are reimbursed by the chapter following UUP reimbursement policies.
Following the provisions of Article 8.4 of the Agreement (Contract), our chapter representatives attend a labor-management meeting on a monthly schedule with representatives of ESC management. The agenda for each of these meetings is initiated by the chapter, and management can also submit agenda items. UUP chapter labor-management agendas contain items of interest to both full-time and part-time ESC academic and professional employees. Delegates from all 32 UUP chapters across New York State meet together three times each year in a Delegte Assembly, to conduct UUP business. Delegates from the ESC chapter who have been elected in the regular biannual election attend and participate in these statewide Delegate Assemblies. Each UUP chapter is allocated a number of delegates based on its academic and professional membership – one academic and professional delegate for each 75 academic and professional members. Our chapter size currently permits us eight academic delegates and three professional delegates. Any member of the chapter is welcome to attend a delegate assembly as an observer; travel expenses are reimbursed by the chapter following UUP reimbursement policies. The chapter is also involved in statewide activities through membership by individuals appointed to UUP statewide committees. It almost goes without saying that an active and strong chapter depends on member participation in chapter activities.
